A Stepper Drive Micro-Step And Without Micro-Step

The difference of stepper drive segment and do not segment:high precision of a micro-step stepping drive.The subdivision is the stepper drive that divides each pulse from the higher-level device based on the drive's setting subdivided coefficient into a coefficient pulse output.That is to say,if stepping motor has 200 pulses per revolution,and stepper motor driver is subdivided into 32,then stepper motor controller need to output 6400 pulse to make stepper motor turn one round.

Usually subdivided into 2,4,8,16,32,64,128,256,512 ....

In foreign countries,for the stepper system,mainly using two-phase hybrid stepper motor and the corresponding subdivision drive.But in China,the majority of users do not understand well of "Micro-Step",and some just think that the subdivision is to improve accuracy,it is not true,the micro-step is mainly to improve the motor performance,explanation as follows:stepper motor subdivision control is achieved by stepper drive accurate control of its phase current.Take example of a two-phase motor,if the rated current of the motor is 3A,if use a conventional drive(such as common constant current chopping mode)to drive the motor.The motor runs each step,the current within the winding will change from 0 to 3A or from 3A to 0,phase current changing,will inevitably cause the running motor vibration and noise.If use a micro-step drive,the motor is driven in a 10-segmented state,the motor run a step,has a slight change in current within the winding of only 0.3A instead of 3A,and the current changes with the sinusoidal curve,improve the motor vibration and noise greatly.Therefore,the performance advantage is the real advantage of subdivision.As the micro-step drive accurately control the motor phase current,so have a very high technical requirements and process requirements of the stepper motor controller,the cost will be a little higher.

Note that some of the stepper drive using "smooth" to replace the subdivision,and some also known as micro-step,but this is not a real subdivision:

1. "Smooth" does not precisely control the motor phase current,just make the rate of change in the current slow,so "smooth"does not produce micro-step,and subdivision of the micro-step can be used to accurately locate

2.The motor phase current is smoothed,will cause motor torque decline,but subdivision control will not cause the motor torque decline,on the contrary,the torque will increase.
