Affection from the Stepper Motor's Power And Voltage

General stepper motor drivers are constant current chopping,then in practical applications,what is the effect of a stepper motor controller driving voltage and setting current to stepper motor performance?

In general:the voltage affects the speed,the current affects the torque

Stepping motor torque frequency characteristics,is the data under particular current voltage test,when the current voltage changes,the moment frequency characteristics will have corresponding change too.

For example:the application of nema34 stepper motor haa large range of voltage fluctuations,from 24V to 220V drive can be

applied,torque is 8N.m,which is in the DC48V,the average current is 4A,and holding torque is about 5.2Nm at 300RPM;if we

increase the current to 6A,the static torque is increased to 6.3Nm,and 300rpm torque increased to 5.4Nm;if the voltage down to DC24V,the current still maintain to 5A,holding torque is only 5.7Nm,and the torque is only 4.3Nm when in 300RPM.

Relatively speaking,under the same current condition,the voltage more impact stepper motor speed,such as EC57HB76-034,DC24V

,the empty speed to 2100RPM,if use DC48V,empty speed up to 3200RPM.In the case of same voltage,the effect of adjusting current on the torque of the stepper motor is more pronounced.

But the one-sided talk about the current impact torque,the voltage affect speed is not correct,no matterr current change or voltage changes will change the stepper motor torque-frequency characteristics,change the voltage also changes the stepper motor torque,change the current also change the stepper motor high-speed performance.

It is important to note,

First,increase the voltage or increase the current,will increase stepper motor heating,stepper motor temperature too high will produce thermal demagnetization,so try to choose a margin of the motor specifications;

Second,in the case of sufficient motor torque,we try to set the current a little smaller than the rated current stalls,which can extend the life of the stepper motor and stepper drive;

Third,a rated voltage 80V drive,we try to use at about 70V,ECON TD860AH rated voltage AC24-80V,but civil and industrial

power,there is a certain range of voltage fluctuations,the machine power on and power off instantaneous peak current and voltage will be high,so leaving some margin will greatly reduce the repair rate.Some small brand of stepper motor drivers will use 100V capacitor drive nominal voltage range AC24-80V,if the user really use 80V power supply,it is a bit dangerous.
